MBARE CARVINGS

In the language of the Shona people of Zimbabwe, mbare (pronounced m-bah-ree) means a 'gathering of things." The Mbare group is composed of individual artists, talented families and artists' collectives scattered throughout all of Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe is most widely known in the art world for its highly prized Shona sculpture, hailed by critics as the most exciting art form to emerge from Africa in this century. No two items are exactly alike since each is handmade. A percentage of all sales are put into the Artists Trust, established to help individual artists and artists' cooperatives to develop their skill and businesses.
