LIZARDS BY DAN AND ROCHELLE
In 1980 Dan and his wife, Rochelle, returned to the ranch that has been in his family for 100 years. At that time he pursued his art career in earnest. He sought an appropriate medium to suit his new ideas. He learned to weld and found working with steel very satisfying. Each sculpture is cut one at a time from steel plate with an oxygen acetylene torch. The parts are then securely welded together. For a rustic natural appearance, texture is welded onto the surface. Painted pieces are airbrushed with auto enamel.
On his ranch, Dan enjoys the diversity of wildlife and is very concerned about issues that relate to the diminishing natural world. "In our world of increasing concrete and skyscrapers, there remains an instinctive love of our disappearing natural world," says Dan. Recreating wildlife in his work is an expression of that love and loss. |
