Cynthia has been working in the medium of etched glass for over 15 years. She became intrigued with glass many years ago, learning how to carve with a sandblaster in the hot summer sun of her childhood barnyard. She lived on a farm where her aunt who worked with glass showed Cynthia how to operate a sandblaster. With each piece she begins with handblown glass. The designs are cut into a "resist" tape placed on the glass. Areas of the tape are cut away to expose the glass for sand blasting. The taped areas deflect the sand and protect the glass underneath. Each successive piece of tape is pulled away from the areas to be sand-blasted for the etched effect.
She adds shadowing that gives her artistry dimension and depth. Her pieces can be readily identified by a cutaway lip, her signature style developed by carving and incorporating the lip into the total design of each piece. Cynthia also creates doors, windows and other custom pieces. Her work is available in a range of rich colors that include cobalt blue, maroon, amber and jade. |
