Artmax's exclusive team of designers have incorporated a vast perception of design and themes from the traditional, transitional and contemporary. Each piece is painstakingly crafted and painted by artisans to complete the look in the fabled Coromandel Technique that is used by few craftsmen today.
Originally a Chinese art form, Coromandel was named for the Indian port near Madras where many early products were shipped to Western markets. It is a painstaking technique where as many as 40 coats of stained lacquer are necessary. Before adding a second layer of lacquer, the first must be completely even and perfectly dry. Layers are so thin that 30 or more are required for a finish just 1/8 inch thick. Colors are brushed into sculpted areas to provide color to complete the finish. Superior quality materials are used to finish the pieces to enhance its beauty.
