| Our whimsical birdhouses are derived from a combination of colonial American earthenware birdhouses called "Bird Bottles" or "Bird Jars." Each piece is thrown on a potter's wheel and then details are added by hand. Made of quality red earthenware clay, each completed house is allowed to air dry and is then bisque fired to approximately 1800 degrees Fahrenheit. Glaze and stain colors are applied after cooling and then the birdhouses are fired a second time to approximately 2100 degrees Fahrenheit. No two are ever the same. The ceramic birdhouses are durable and can be left outdoors throughout the year to provide your birds with year round nesting comfort. It is advised to clean the house once a year in early spring to maintain the health of the birds. Each house is easily hung with one wide headed nail. A perching twig should be inserted in the holes under the chin. Each house measures about 10" long by 8" wide. |
