| Bud gets intimately involved with protecting the environment. What Bottoms wants to express in his work is his concern for the environment. The nature of the dolphin is similar to that of a child, they are trustful, playful, innocent and have a great affinity for their fellow creatures. It is the union of the dolphin family and the spirit of “Joy Boy” that the sculptor has used to symbolize our relationship with nature. In his own words, “A celebration of our interaction with all other species and what better symbols of this positive relationship than dolphin and child?” Bottoms has created dolphin fountains in Santa Barbara, California; The Shriner’s Crippled Children Hospital, Los Angeles; Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; Toba City, Japan. |
