British-born Brian Arthur is a graduate of the Southport College of Arts with a major in sculpture and art history, Arthur began his career in the heart of the English pottery country of Staffordshire while he continued his studies at the Burslein School of Industrial Design.
At the Chelsea Pottery in London, he worked with hand-thrown sculptures and ornamental designs and, when Chelsea opened a branch in the Bahamas, he moved to the islands where he helped train workers to produce pottery that was shipped to the finest stores in the United States. He worked in France and Italy for a time, then joined renowned Austrian sculptor Felix De Weldon in Washington, D.C., to work on several major commemorative sculptures including the Iwo Jima and Truman monuments. |
